Having had no success in finding a position for the claimant, the insured requested Workfinders work the claim to find suitable alternate employment opportunities and prove a viable wage earning capacity.
Taking the claimant’s languages into consideration, we first approached Mandarin employers. These are close knit communities, distrustful of phone calls from English speakers, and finding employers willing to speak with us was a challenge. However, we did locate an open position a Mandarin pharmacy where the employer needed a cashier and was happy to provide a chair for the claimant.
Using the claimant’s Mandarin language, we were able to also find a position at a wireless cell phone store as a Mandarin speaking customer service representative. We also found a job as a cell phone repair worker at a company where any language was welcome, English was not required. For both of these jobs, the employer was happy to provide seating for the claimant and there was no lifting.
Unable to find anything more for a Mandarin speaker, we looked to the claimant’s conversational Spanish skills and we were able to source a job as a doorstand/ greeter at a primarily Spanish speaking stage theater. The job involved greeting guests and directing them to the theater or the restrooms. Only the most basic Spanish and, rarely, very basic English was required for the position and the employer said they would allow the claimant to remain seated for his shifts.
